What Students Need to Do
- Students identify how automation, digital tools, remote work, and global trade create, change, or reduce jobs. They explain how workers can respond by gaining new skills or training.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can trace a clear cause and effect between an economic change and a career outcome. They support the explanation with a specific occupation, technology, or global market example.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume technology only eliminates jobs, rather than also creating jobs and changing daily tasks. They may confuse globalization with travel or believe it affects only factory workers.
How to Assess It
- Ask: “Online shopping grows while cashier-free checkout spreads. Name one career that may grow, one that may shrink, and one skill workers may need.”
