What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how innovations such as container shipping, automation, and broadband change what Virginia produces and sells. They trace effects on businesses, workers, consumers, and trade with other states and countries.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can use a map, graph, or short source to explain how one innovation changed a Virginia industry. They connect that change to jobs, production, or trade and support the link with evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat technology as only computers, missing transportation, manufacturing, and communication tools. They may assume every innovation creates jobs and lowers costs for everyone. They may also describe a Virginia industry without explaining its national or global links.
