What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students connect punctuality, honesty, persistence, initiative, and cooperation to workplace results. They explain how choices affect trust, job performance, and opportunities for added responsibility or promotion.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can examine a workplace scenario, identify the helpful or harmful behavior, and predict a likely consequence. They can suggest a specific better choice and explain why it would help.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think working long hours always means having a strong work ethic. They may assume talent or good grades can replace dependability, honesty, and teamwork. Some confuse taking initiative with ignoring directions.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Jordan misses a deadline and blames a coworker. Name two work habits Jordan should improve, and explain one likely workplace consequence.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs workplace scenario cards to sort under reliable, unreliable, and unclear, then have them rewrite one weak choice.

  2. Ask students to write: Which matters more at work, talent or dependability, and what evidence supports your view?

  3. Play Consequence Match, where teams pair behavior cards, such as arriving late, with likely effects on coworkers, customers, and supervisors.

  4. Have students mark work habits named in a local job posting, then give one school example that demonstrates each habit.
