What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain that Memorial Day remembers military members who died while serving the country. They identify ways communities show respect, such as ceremonies, flags, parades, and cemetery visits.

- Students can state who is remembered and why. They can describe a community tradition and explain how it shows respect or remembrance.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day and say it honors everyone who served. They may focus only on picnics or the start of summer instead of remembrance.

- Exit ticket: Name who is remembered on Memorial Day and describe one way a community honors them.
