What Students Need to Do: Students tell the truth when they make a mistake, keep promises, and return things they borrow. They explain how these choices build or damage trust.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given a familiar situation, students identify the trustworthy choice and explain its likely effect. They admit mistakes and follow through on agreed tasks.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think honesty only means not telling a direct lie, so hiding part of the truth is acceptable. They may think promises do not count when keeping them becomes difficult.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: You accidentally break a classmate’s pencil. Write what you should say and do, then explain how your response could build trust.

Lesson moves

Sort illustrated scenario cards into “builds trust” and “breaks trust,” then move one card after hearing a missing detail.
Write about a time someone admitted a mistake, then explain how that choice affected trust.
Play Promise Match: pair each promise card with the action that shows the person followed through.
Use a classroom supply checkout sheet for one day, then discuss how returning each item supports shared responsibility.
