What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students share personal experiences and short stories in complete spoken sentences. They speak clearly, at a steady pace, with suitable volume and expression. They recite familiar texts and tell events in order using words, pictures, drama, or props.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student tells a short experience or story in full sentences and a clear, audible voice. The student puts events in order and adjusts pace, volume, and expression. The student joins group recitations and uses pictures or props to support meaning.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may list details without telling them in order. They may use sentence fragments, speak too softly, rush, or confuse loudness with expression. Some rely on pictures or props without explaining what happens.
How to Assess It
- Give students three picture cards showing a simple event. Ask them to arrange the cards, tell what happened in order, and use a clear speaking voice.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs three picture cards and simple props, then have them arrange and act out the events in order.
Ask, “What did you do before school today?” and prompt students to tell the events from beginning to end.
Play an echo game where students repeat one rhyming line while matching the teacher’s pace, volume, and expression.
Have students explain a classroom routine to a new student, using pictures to show what happens at the beginning, middle, and end.
