What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan a presentation with a clear beginning, middle, and end. They choose relevant evidence, combine speech with another mode, and show how different viewpoints relate to the topic.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The presentation moves smoothly from one idea to the next, with facts and details supporting each point. Visuals, speech, text, or gestures work together, and contrasting viewpoints are represented accurately.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add images that decorate rather than explain. They may repeat the same information in every mode, jump between ideas, or mention another viewpoint without explaining it fairly.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Present a 60-second response to “Should school start later?” Use one visual, spoken evidence, and a fair explanation of another viewpoint.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups six mixed-up note cards about a topic, then have them order the cards and add an image and narration.
Ask students to write: Which part of your message is clearer in words, images, or gestures, and why?
Play Presentation Remix: pairs draw two mode cards and revise a short speech to use both while preserving a clear sequence.
Analyze a public service announcement, noting how visuals, narration, text, and viewpoint shape the audience's understanding.
