What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan a short presentation that combines spoken or written information with images, charts, audio, video, or props. They select media that makes the topic clearer rather than adding distractions.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student creates a clear presentation with a main idea and supporting details. Images, charts, audio, or props directly support the information. The student can explain why each media choice was included.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think any picture, sound, or animation improves a presentation. They may crowd slides with text or read every word aloud. They may choose media that looks interesting but does not explain the topic.
How to Assess It
- Ask students to create two slides about a familiar animal, including a title, two facts, and one helpful visual. Have them explain how the visual helps the audience understand.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs three paper slides, animal photos, and sticky notes; have them build a presentation with one useful visual per slide.
Ask students to write: Which explains a weather topic better, a labeled diagram or background music, and why?
Play Media Match: teams pair topic cards with image, chart, audio, or prop cards, then defend each match.
Have students create a two-slide lunch menu pitch using a food photo, price chart, and brief spoken explanation.
