5.C.3 is a Standards of Learning standard. These are the knowledge and skills expectations under it.

What Students Need to Do

Students choose a clear message, arrange ideas in a logical order, and build a presentation using words, images, audio, video, or movement. They make each element add information or clarify the main idea.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student can explain why each slide, image, sound, or spoken part is included. The parts work together, stay focused, and help an audience understand the message without clutter or repetition.

Common Misconceptions

Students may add pictures, music, or animations only for decoration, or repeat the same facts in every mode. They may use crowded slides, unreadable text, distracting effects, or media that does not support the main idea.

How to Assess It

Give students a short paragraph about conserving water. Ask them to sketch one slide with a headline and visual, then explain how both parts work together to teach the main idea.

   Give pairs fact cards, photos, and chart paper to build a three-panel presentation about an animal adaptation, then present it aloud.

   Show two sample slides, one cluttered and one focused, and ask students to write which communicates better and cite two design choices.

   Play Media Match: teams pair message cards with image, audio, or graph cards and justify which combination best supports each message.

4. 04

   Have students create a one-minute school announcement using a spoken script and poster to promote a library event or safety reminder.
