What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan a clear message for a specific audience and arrange ideas in a logical sequence. They select visuals, audio, text, and graphics that work together rather than repeat or distract.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A strong student product has a focused purpose, clear sequence, and consistent tone. Each image, sound, caption, and graphic adds useful information or guides audience attention.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add images or music only for decoration. They may overload slides, repeat the same information in every format, or arrange details without a clear sequence.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Give students six content cards about school safety. They select and order four, then add an image, chart, and audio cue with a reason for each.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs a printed fact sheet, sticky notes, and icons, then have them storyboard a 60-second public service announcement.
Ask students to write: Which image, sound, and chart best support your main point, and what should the audience notice first?
Run a sequencing race where teams arrange shuffled slides from a sample campaign, then defend their order in thirty seconds.
Have students redesign a school announcement for morning video, adding a readable graphic, purposeful image, and brief audio cue.
