What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students plan a clear message for a specific audience and arrange ideas in a logical sequence. They select visuals, audio, text, and graphics that work together rather than repeat or distract.

What Mastery Looks Like

A strong student product has a focused purpose, clear sequence, and consistent tone. Each image, sound, caption, and graphic adds useful information or guides audience attention.

Common Misconceptions

Students may add images or music only for decoration. They may overload slides, repeat the same information in every format, or arrange details without a clear sequence.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Give students six content cards about school safety. They select and order four, then add an image, chart, and audio cue with a reason for each.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs a printed fact sheet, sticky notes, and icons, then have them storyboard a 60-second public service announcement.

  2. Ask students to write: Which image, sound, and chart best support your main point, and what should the audience notice first?

  3. Run a sequencing race where teams arrange shuffled slides from a sample campaign, then defend their order in thirty seconds.

  4. Have students redesign a school announcement for morning video, adding a readable graphic, purposeful image, and brief audio cue.
