What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students sort related facts into clear groups and decide which details belong together. They choose a clear format, then present the information so others can follow it.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can group facts under clear headings and put them in a sensible order. The student can share the main ideas through a short talk, paragraph, poster, chart, or labeled diagram.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may list facts in the order they found them instead of grouping related ideas. They may add pictures that do not explain the information. Some leave out headings, labels, or key details their audience needs.
How to Assess It
- Give students six facts about frogs. Ask them to group the facts under headings, make a one-page display, and explain one group aloud.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs ten animal fact cards to sort into categories, then have them build a labeled poster with the grouped facts.
Ask students to explain which format, paragraph, poster, chart, or speech, would best teach younger students about a chosen topic.
Play an organization relay where teams place fact cards under headings and explain why each card belongs there.
Have students turn classroom survey results into a labeled bar graph and give a 30-second report to the class.
