What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students choose a presentation goal, audience, and format instead of defaulting to a slideshow. They combine information from several sources and media into one clear message.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students choose presentation modes that fit their audience and goal. They combine ideas, data, quotations, and visuals into a clear report or supported opinion without repeating the same information.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often choose slides by habit, without considering whether a chart, image, audio clip, or handout fits the audience. They may present sources separately instead of connecting them into one clear message.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: A principal needs a three-minute briefing on later school start times. Name two presentation modes you would use, explain why, and connect one statistic with one student quotation.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups source cards, a chart, and an image, then have them build a two-minute briefing that connects all three.
Ask students to write which format would best inform families about a school issue and defend their choice with two reasons.
Play Audience Switch: students draw a new audience card and revise a one-minute presentation plan to suit that group.
Have students create a town council pitch using a local news article, one data graphic, and one resident quotation.
