What Students Need to Do: Students arrange familiar events from beginning to end. They use words such as first, next, then, and last to explain the sequence.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can arrange three or four event pictures correctly without help. The student can describe the sequence using time-order words.
Common Misconceptions: Students may confuse the order in which pictures are shown with the order events happen. They may also mix up yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
How to Assess It: Give students four mixed-up pictures showing a child planting a seed. Ask them to arrange the pictures and explain what happens first and last.

Lesson moves

Give pairs picture cards showing handwashing steps, then have them arrange the cards and act out the sequence.
Ask students to draw three things they did before school and label them first, next, and last.
Play a sequence relay where teams arrange mixed-up cards showing how to make a sandwich.
Create a class timeline of the school day using photos of arrival, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
