What Students Need to Do: Students put familiar events in order and identify what happened before, what is happening now, and what will happen later. They read events from left to right.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student correctly places three events, such as breakfast, class time, and bedtime, in order. The student explains each placement using time words.
Common Misconceptions: Students may confuse the past with anything that happened earlier today. They may think the future means tomorrow only. Some place events by preference instead of time order.
How to Assess It: Give students three picture cards showing waking up, eating lunch, and going to bed. Ask them to order and label the cards, then explain one choice.

Lesson moves

Have students arrange picture cards of a school day on a taped line, then label each event with yesterday, now, or later.
Ask students to draw one thing they did before school, one thing they are doing now, and one thing they will do tonight.
Play Time Order Relay, where teams race to place three event cards in the correct sequence and explain their choices.
Use a class calendar to mark a completed field trip, today’s lesson, and an upcoming school event.
