K.11 is a TEKS knowledge and skills statement. These are the student expectations under it.

Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students name a tradition their family follows and tell when and why it happens. They identify ways their tradition is similar to or different from another family's tradition.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can draw or describe a family tradition and explain why it matters to the family. The student can name one similarity or difference between two families' traditions.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think traditions happen only on holidays or that every repeated task is a tradition. They may also assume all families celebrate in the same way.
How to Assess It: Give an exit ticket: “Draw one family tradition. Tell why it matters and one way it is like or different from a classmate's tradition.”

Lesson moves

Have students make paper quilt squares showing family traditions, then join the squares into a class quilt and compare the pictures.
Ask, “What does your family do again and again that feels special?” Students draw their response and dictate one sentence.
Play Same or Different with two illustrated tradition cards, and have students show matching symbols before naming one similarity or difference.
Students interview a family member using three questions: What do we do, when do we do it, and why does it matter?
