- Students locate the three battles on a Texas map and place them in time. They explain each battle’s outcome and why it mattered to Texas during the Civil War.

- Students may think no battles occurred in Texas because most major fighting happened farther east. They often confuse the Confederate recapture of Galveston with the defense of Sabine Pass. They may think Palmito Ranch changed the war’s result, though it occurred after Lee’s surrender.
