What Students Need to Do
- Students compare societies using life expectancy, total GDP, GDP per person, and literacy rates. They use several indicators together to describe levels of economic development.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students read an indicator table and make a supported comparison between societies. They distinguish total GDP from GDP per person and cite specific data as evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume the country with the largest GDP is the most developed. They may treat one indicator as final proof or confuse literacy rate with years of schooling.
How to Assess It
- Give students data for three countries. Ask them to rank the countries by economic development and justify the ranking with at least three indicators.
