Common Misconceptions: Students may think mass production always improves product quality or working conditions. They may confuse specialization, worker expertise, with division of labor, splitting production into separate tasks.
How to Assess It: Give students this exit prompt: “A shoe factory assigns each worker one step and doubles its daily output. Explain two effects on the economy.”

Lesson moves

Have teams make paper cars individually, then in assembly-line stations, recording production time and output for each method.
Ask students to explain why Henry Ford could sell more cars after changing how factory workers built them.
Sort scenario cards into mass production, specialization, or division of labor, then defend each choice to a partner.
