What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students sort facts into clear groups, then place them in a useful outline, table, timeline, graph, or map. They read each format to explain sequence, location, patterns, and relationships.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given facts about Texas history, students choose a useful format, organize the details accurately, and add clear labels. They use the finished product to answer questions and support a conclusion with evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may copy facts without grouping them or place events out of order. They may omit titles, labels, scales, or legends. Some state a single fact instead of identifying a pattern or relationship.
How to Assess It
- Give students six facts about a Texas history event. Ask them to organize the facts in a timeline or chart, then write one conclusion based on it.

Display a population graph and ask, "What changed most, and which numbers support your answer?"
Run stations with maps, charts, timelines, and data tables, awarding points when teams answer correctly and cite specific evidence.
Survey classmates about travel to school, graph the results, and write one recommendation for improving arrival procedures.
