- Students identify a hero and describe a specific act of courage or service. They explain who was helped and why the deed was heroic.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students accurately connect each person or group to a heroic deed. They support their explanation with details about the action, risk, sacrifice, or service involved.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may call someone heroic only because the person is famous. They may mix up Garcia’s veterans’ advocacy, Lovell’s Apollo 13 leadership, and the Four Chaplains’ sacrifice.
