What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students gather facts about STEM careers from more than one source, including people and organizations. They compare job duties, training, skills, work settings, and career paths, then summarize what they learned.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can choose useful sources, pull relevant facts from each, and explain why the information is trustworthy. The student can describe a career accurately and cite at least two different source types.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think STEM careers are limited to scientists, engineers, doctors, or computer programmers. They may trust the first search result, confuse company advertising with neutral information, or focus only on salary.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Name one STEM career, list one fact about its daily work and one about required training, then identify two sources supporting those facts.

Set up stations with a library book, museum page, professional association profile, company page, and mentor clip about one career.
Write a claim about which STEM career fits your interests, then support it with facts from two different resource types.
Play Source Match: teams pair career questions with the resource most likely to give a reliable answer and explain each choice.
Invite a local STEM worker for a ten-minute interview, with students asking about daily tasks, training, and unexpected parts of the job.
