What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use books, websites, organization pages, and information from STEM workers to investigate careers. They gather facts about job duties, tools, education, and workplaces, then record where each fact came from.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can describe a STEM career using accurate facts from at least two sources. They can name their sources and explain why each source is useful or trustworthy.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think STEM careers are limited to scientists, engineers, doctors, or computer programmers. They may copy the first search result, treat advertisements as facts, or assume every STEM job requires the same education.
How to Assess It
- Give students a library book excerpt and a company career page about one job. Ask them to list two facts, cite each source, and circle the more reliable source for each fact.

Set up stations with library books, museum brochures, company profiles, and mentor cards, then have students record one career fact from each source.
