What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use trustworthy sources to learn about STEM careers. They gather facts about job duties, tools, training, workplaces, and problems workers solve.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can use two different resources to describe a STEM career accurately. The student records key facts, names each source, and asks a useful follow-up question.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think STEM careers are limited to scientists, doctors, or computer programmers. They may treat every website as reliable or confuse a worker's tools with the worker's main job.
How to Assess It
- Give students two short resource cards about an environmental engineer. Ask them to write two job facts, name the source for each fact, and add one question.

Ways to Teach It
Set up career stations with books, printed webpages, museum brochures, and company profiles, then have students complete a career fact sheet.
Write about one STEM career you would like to observe, including the worker’s tasks, tools, and one question you would ask.
Play a matching game using cards for STEM careers, job duties, tools, workplaces, and trusted information sources.
Invite a campus nurse, technician, engineer, or programmer to answer student questions about daily tasks and career preparation.
