What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use books, websites, organizations, company materials, and interviews to learn about STEM careers. They record job tasks, tools, work settings, and needed training.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can describe a STEM career using facts from a named resource. The student can explain why that resource helped answer a career question.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think STEM includes only scientists or engineers. They may copy facts without naming the source or confuse a company advertisement with a career profile.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short career profile and ask them to write the career name, two daily tasks, and one question they still have.

Ways to Teach It
Set up resource stations with library books, museum pages, company profiles, and mentor interview clips. Students complete a career fact card at each.
Ask students to write: Which STEM career surprised you, and which source gave you the clearest picture of its daily work?
Play Source Match: teams pair career question cards with the best resource card, then explain each choice.
Invite a local engineer, lab technician, or park naturalist for a ten-minute interview using student-written questions about tasks, tools, and training.
