What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify well-known scientists and engineers and describe their work. They explain how a discovery, study, or invention solves problems or improves people’s lives.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can match Bell, Daly, Molina, and Goodall with their fields or contributions. They can give a clear example of how one person’s work helped people, animals, or the environment.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think all scientists work in laboratories or invent machines. They may confuse scientists with engineers or think an innovation must be electronic. Some may not see research about animals or the environment as helpful to people.
How to Assess It
- Give an exit ticket: “Choose Bell, Daly, Molina, or Goodall. What did this person study or create, and how did the work help others?”

Ways to Teach It
Pairs sort scientist cards, contribution cards, and benefit cards, then explain each completed match.
Students write: “Which scientist’s work helped society most, and what evidence supports your choice?”
Play Who Am I by reading contribution clues while teams identify Bell, Daly, Molina, or Goodall.
Students inspect one classroom tool, name the problem it solves, and explain how its design helps people.
