What Students Need to Do
- Students put the four seasons in order and identify the repeating yearly cycle. They describe common changes in weather, plants, animals, and daylight, then predict what comes next.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can sequence season picture cards and explain how nature changes from one season to the next. The student makes a reasonable prediction using an observed seasonal pattern.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think seasons happen in a random order or only once. They may assume every place has snow in winter or identical seasonal changes.
How to Assess It
- Give students four season cards to place in order. Ask, “What season comes after fall, and what change might you notice in nature?”

Ways to Teach It
Sort photos of trees, clothing, weather, and animals onto four season mats, then place the mats in yearly order.
Show a summer scene and ask students to draw and label how the same place might look in winter.
Play Season Circle by passing four labeled cards clockwise and naming the season that comes next.
Use a local weather calendar to compare this month’s temperature, daylight, plants, and animal activity with another season.
