Students organize all possible outcomes for one-step and multi-step chance situations. They find expected chances from those outcomes and observed chances from collected data.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students create an organized list, table, or tree diagram with all possible outcomes. They calculate expected chances and use trial data to find observed chances, then compare the two.

Common Misconceptions

Students may add probabilities when they should multiply, or leave outcomes out of a sample space. They may also confuse observed results with the expected chance.

How to Assess It

Give an exit ticket: “A coin is flipped and a number cube is rolled. Find the chance of tails and an even number, then compare it with results from 30 trials.”
