Students organize category data by counting how often each category appears. They show those counts in a frequency table, dot plot, pictograph, or scaled bar graph.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students record correct totals for every category and include clear labels. They use the pictograph key or graph scale correctly and can identify the most, least, and total responses.

Common Misconceptions

Students may miscount repeated items or leave out a category. They may ignore a pictograph key or treat every bar graph interval as one. They may place dots between labels instead of directly above a category.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Use the data apples 6, bananas 4, oranges 2, grapes 8. Make a frequency table and a bar graph with intervals of 2.
