What Students Need to Do
- Students edit sentences by adding or correcting words that tell when or where an action happens. They check that each word fits the sentence and makes the meaning clear.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students find words such as today, later, here, and outside in sentences. They add or revise these words so readers know when or where an action happens.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse when or where words with describing words such as soft or blue. They may also place the adverb where the sentence sounds awkward or changes meaning.
How to Assess It
- Give students: “We will play.” Ask them to add one word telling when and one word telling where, then label each word.
