What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students choose simple sources that can help answer a class question. With teacher support, they find and record useful facts from books, pictures, videos, or safe websites.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a question and a small set of sources, students select useful sources and locate one or two related facts. They can explain how each fact helps answer the question.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may choose a source because it looks interesting rather than because it answers the question. They may copy an unrelated fact or rely on only one source.
How to Assess It
- Give students a question and three source cards. Have them circle two useful sources, then draw or write one fact that answers the question.
