What Students Need to Do

Students summarize quantitative data in context by reporting sample size, attribute, measurement method, units, center, range, shape, and unusual values. They connect measure choices to the distribution.

What Mastery Looks Like

The student produces a complete summary using mean, median, or mode and range accurately. The student describes patterns and outliers in context and explains a suitable center choice.

Common Misconceptions

Students may list calculations without naming the attribute or units. They may choose mean automatically even when skew or an outlier makes median more informative.

How to Assess It

Give a contextual data set with one outlier. Ask students to report its size, attribute, units, center, range, pattern, and best center choice.
