What Mastery Looks Like: The student writes 3,245 as three thousand two hundred forty-five and as 3,000 + 200 + 40 + 5. The student handles zero placeholders correctly.
Common Misconceptions: Students may omit a zero place in numeral or expanded form. They may write spoken number parts in sequence without combining their place values.
How to Assess It: Ask students to write 7,036 in words and expanded form, then rebuild the numeral from those forms.
