What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students express thoughts, feelings, and ideas through spoken language. They communicate enough information for familiar listeners to understand.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student states an idea or feeling clearly and adds a relevant word, phrase, gesture, or detail. The response stays on topic.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may give a single unclear word or echo another speaker. They may assume listeners know what they mean.
How to Assess It
- Give a familiar picture or situation. Ask the student to express one thought, one feeling, and one idea clearly.
