What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students converse about features of texts presented through pictures, print, audio, video, or other formats. They notice and discuss what each format shows or tells.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student names a feature and responds to a partner’s observation. The conversation connects the feature to meaning.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may name objects without discussing text features. They may focus on one format and ignore the shared content.
How to Assess It
- Show an illustrated page and brief audio or video element. Ask students to discuss one feature of each through multiple turns.
