What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase alphabet letters. They match each capital letter with its lowercase form.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student names letters in mixed order and across varied print styles. The student pairs uppercase and lowercase forms without relying on alphabet sequence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may recite the alphabet but not identify isolated letters. They may confuse visually similar forms such as b, d, p, and q.
How to Assess It
- Show mixed uppercase and lowercase letter cards in random order. Ask the student to name each and match five uppercase-lowercase pairs.
