What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students work with peers to establish collegial discussion and decision-making norms. They set clear goals, deadlines, and roles suited to the task.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The group creates usable norms and a plan before beginning. Each student carries out a defined role, tracks progress, and helps revise the plan when needed.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may adopt vague norms that cannot guide behavior. They may divide tasks without coordinating goals or treat the facilitator as solely responsible for deadlines.
How to Assess It
- Give groups a complex decision task. Require a written norm set, goal, deadline plan, role list, and brief progress record before the final decision.
