Analyze how a subject / content is presented in two or more formats by determining which details are emphasized, altered, or absent in each account. (e.g., analyze the representation of a subject / content or key scene in two different formats, examine the differences between a historical novel and a documentary). (RI&RL)

What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare how the same subject or content appears in multiple formats. They analyze which details each version emphasizes, changes, or leaves out.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student cites specific choices from each format and explains their effects. The comparison accounts for medium, audience, and purpose rather than merely listing differences.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may judge one version as better without criteria or evidence. They may compare surface features while ignoring altered emphasis, omission, and interpretation.
How to Assess It
- Give students a written account and a short video clip or infographic about the same event. Ask them to analyze one emphasized, one altered, and one absent detail.
