What Students Need to Do
- Students analyze how point of view, perspective, and purpose shape explicit and implicit messages. They examine rhetorical strategies, literary elements, and devices used to influence interpretation.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student distinguishes speaker, perspective, and purpose, then traces how choices develop a message. The analysis addresses both stated ideas and reasonable implications with evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume the narrator and author share one view. They may identify a rhetorical device without explaining how it shapes an explicit or implicit message.
How to Assess It
- Give a persuasive or literary excerpt. Ask students to analyze how one perspective and one rhetorical or literary choice shape both a stated and implied message.
