What Students Need to Do: Students write a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrative's experiences, observations, or resolution. The reflection deepens the meaning of what occurred.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student resolves the central situation and connects the ending to details developed earlier. Reflection reveals a credible change, question, or understanding rather than an added moral.
Common Misconceptions: Students may state a universal lesson the events do not support or summarize the plot again. They may resolve a complex conflict too quickly.
How to Assess It: Give a narrative ending after a character changes sides in a disagreement. Ask students to add a conclusion that resolves the moment and reflects on earlier evidence.
