What Students Need to Do: Students conclude a narrative in a way that follows from and reflects on what was experienced, observed, or resolved. The ending connects insight to the developed events.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student closes the central situation and offers reflection grounded in specific narrative details. The final insight fits what the narrator learned or noticed during the experience.
Common Misconceptions: Students may attach a broad moral unsupported by events or repeat the plot instead of reflecting. They may resolve the conflict through a sudden unexplained change.
How to Assess It: Give a narrative that stops after a character returns a lost wallet. Ask students to write a conclusion that resolves the event and reflects on one earlier detail.
