What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students analyze central ideas and supporting details presented through visual, quantitative, and oral formats. They explain how those ideas clarify or contribute to a topic, text, or issue.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student identifies a central idea and selects relevant details from each format. The analysis explains a contribution, clarification, or tension among the sources.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may summarize each source separately without integrating ideas. They may treat a striking visual or number as central without checking supporting context.
How to Assess It
- Provide a graph and short audio report about the same topic. Ask students to identify the central idea, cite support from both, and explain one contribution.
