What Students Need to Do
- Students identify and evaluate the reasons and evidence a speaker uses to support particular points. They judge relevance and strength.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student states the speaker’s point and matches each reason or evidence item accurately. The student explains which support is stronger and why.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may judge support by speaker confidence. They may confuse examples with reasons or accept unrelated facts as evidence.
How to Assess It
- Play a brief argument with two reasons and one irrelevant detail. Ask students to identify the point, match support, and evaluate relevance.
