What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students recall useful experience or gather relevant information from several sources. They take notes, categorize information, and provide a list of the sources used.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student records accurate notes in useful categories and leaves out unrelated details. The finished work includes a source list that identifies where the information came from.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may copy whole sentences instead of taking notes or include irrelevant details. They may miscategorize notes or omit a source from the list.
How to Assess It
- Provide two short sources and category headings. Ask students to record and sort four relevant notes, then create a source list for both texts.
