Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students recall useful information from experience or gather it from sources the teacher provides. They represent an answer to a question through writing, drawing, speaking, or another suitable form.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student selects information that directly answers the question and leaves out unrelated details. The chosen words, pictures, or oral explanation communicate the answer clearly.
Common Misconceptions: Students may share everything they remember instead of selecting relevant information. They may copy a source detail without connecting it to the question.
How to Assess It: Ask, What helps a plant grow? Provide a simple picture source, then have students answer with a labeled drawing and one spoken or written detail.
