What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students write narratives with established context, narrator or characters, effective technique, descriptive details, clear sequence, transitions, precise sensory language, and conclusion. Events develop coherently.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student orients readers, develops characters or events through dialogue and description, and signals time or setting shifts. Precise details and closure support the experience.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may produce chronological lists without narrative development. They may use dialogue or sensory detail decoratively or shift time without signals.
How to Assess It
- Give a narrative prompt. Ask students to draft a scene with setup, character development, ordered events, transitions, sensory detail, and conclusion.
