What Students Need to Do
- Students consider individual differences when communicating. They adjust language, pace, turn-taking, or support so different people can participate and understand.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student notices a listener’s or speaker’s needs and responds respectfully. Adjustments improve access without making assumptions or excluding anyone.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may speak for another person without asking. They may confuse fairness with treating every participant in exactly the same way.
How to Assess It
- Give groups a discussion scenario with varied communication needs. Ask them to choose and demonstrate two respectful adjustments.
