What Students Need to Do: Students connect jobs and work tasks with getting paid. They explain that the money a worker earns is called income.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given a picture of a worker, a student names the work and explains that the worker may receive money for doing it. The student calls that money income.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think money simply comes from banks, stores, or ATMs. They may also think every helpful task or household chore earns income.
How to Assess It: Show a picture of a bus driver and ask, “How does this person get money to buy things?” Have students answer in one sentence.

Lesson moves

Set up a pretend bakery where students complete a work task, receive play money, and label the money as income.
Ask, “What work does someone in your family or community do, and how do they earn money?”
Play a matching game with worker cards, job task cards, and play paychecks.
Invite a school employee to describe one job task and explain that workers receive pay for their work.
