What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify the shared requirements: at least age 30, a U.S. citizen for 15 years, and a Georgia resident for six years. They compare the governor’s executive powers with the lieutenant governor’s Senate leadership and succession duties.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can correctly sort duties such as vetoing bills, directing state agencies, presiding over the Senate, and replacing a governor. They can explain why the two officials may belong to different political parties.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think the two candidates run on one ticket, like presidential candidates, but Georgia elects them separately. They may also think both can veto bills or that the lieutenant governor only assists the governor.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: List the three shared qualifications, then identify who can veto bills and who presides over the Senate. Explain one answer.
