What Students Need to Do: Students compare how citizens influence leaders, laws, and public decisions under different governments. They explain how voting, protest, political parties, free speech, and access to information affect that influence.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given two country profiles, students can identify where citizens have more political influence and cite specific evidence. They can explain how limits on elections, speech, or opposition reduce participation.
Common Misconceptions: Students may assume any country holding elections is democratic. They may think citizens in democracies make every decision directly, or that people in autocracies have no political role at all.
How to Assess It: Give students two short government profiles. Ask them to identify which gives citizens more influence and support their answer with two details.
