What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as religions practiced across Europe. They recognize that several religions can be present in the same country or city.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can list all three religions without a word bank. They can correctly connect each religion to examples of its presence in Europe.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think Judaism and Islam are practiced only outside Europe. They may also assume every person in a country follows the religion shown as most common on a map.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Name the three major religions studied in Europe, then explain why one country can include followers of several religions.

Ways to Teach It
Place labeled cards for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam on a large Europe map wherever provided source cards show communities or landmarks.
Discuss this prompt: Why does a map showing the most common religion not describe every person living in that country?
Play a clue-card matching game in which teams connect each religion with its name, house of worship, and a European example.
Examine photos of a synagogue, church, and mosque in European cities, then write captions naming each religion and location.
